17 Jan Grim’s Dyke Wedding – Samantha and Hamish’s Tea-Party
I photograph a lot of weddings at Grim’s Dyke Hotel in Harrow Weald, and every now and again I’m asked to cover a party where the couple have been married elsewhere. Samantha and Hamish (brilliantly self labelled as Sam & Ham) live in Canada but Samantha’s family are from London and her parents were married at Grim’s Dyke. It was an obvious location for their wedding celebration back in the UK.
In fact, a year before this, Sam’s sister had a similar type of party at Grim’s Dyke but this was more afternoon tea than the ‘2nd wedding’ that Kate and Brett had, who also married in Canada. They wanted a few posed shots in the gardens but after that it was business as usual just capturing the day unfold naturally.
The weather couldn’t have been better for them and with bright sunshine all day it can make the photography a little difficult. In these conditions I like to look for open shade for the most flattering light, or back lighting for a more dramatic look. With a limited time frame we took a short walk around the grounds. They look after the gardens so well at Grim’s Dyke that it’s an obvious choice to incorporate them into the posed photos.
Afternoon Tea At Grim’s Dyke
A traditional afternoon tea was served before the speeches and that was my day done. A shorter day than normal but it was great to see some familiar faces again from Kate and Brett’s wedding the year before.
