Grim’s Dyke Christmas Wedding – Denise & Kosta

This blog post is a little unseasonal but with Christmas only two months away I think I can get away with it. Denise and Kosta’s wedding was at Grim’s Dyke Hotel near Watford last Christmas.

They’d met through a joint love of dancing and their first dance was more Strictly than most. They even had a costume change with Kosta sporting a black sequinned outfit.

Being December it was cold but we had a decent day for the wedding with clear blue skies for much of the day. I advise couples to keep the group shots brief and it was the right call as we managed to do them outside fairly quickly before everyone was too cold. Grim’s Dyke can be a little limited with indoor space for groups and if you can go outside it just makes the day run a little easier and even in winter the light is usually better outside than under artificial lights.

One of the difficulties with winter weddings is the lack of daylight hours. If you want outdoor photos I would advise a ceremony at 2pm at the latest. The early sunset at around 4pm does throw up opportunities to be creative with external lighting though and we headed outside to capture some of that Christmas atmosphere which would have been a real shame to miss out on.

Grim’s Dyke is one of my favourite and most visited wedding venues but most of the weddings I cover are in the summer when the gardens are in full bloom. It was a different experience at Christmas but the warm and cosy house is well suited for winter weddings. I hope you enjoy the photos…
