Grim’s Dyke Wedding Fair – This Sunday

STOP PRESS! Grim’s Dyke Hotel in Harrow Weald are holding a Wedding Fayre this Sunday, 19th February. I’ll be there showcasing a range of albums and will be on hand to talk you through the various packages I offer for weddings and I might even take a photo or two while I’m there as well!

There’s a range of other suppliers there too including cake makers, florists, make-up artists and plenty more so if you’re currently planning your wedding and looking for inspiration the hotel is open from 11:30am to 4pm and it would be great to see you there.

I photographed James and Thea’s wedding last spring and below is a small selection of my favourite photos from their day. You’ll be able to see their finished album and more on Sunday. Hope you can make it…

Rob & Toni – Married

I know, I know…I’ve been slow to update this blog recently so it really is time I got up to date. And I’ve got plenty to catch up with…I’ve got weddings, I’ve got coastal scenery, I’ve got spring-time countryside, I’ve got…actually, that’s all I’ve got. But there’s plenty of it. Before I get onto that though I’ve got one more wedding to catch up from last season.

So here goes, this is Rob and Toni’s wedding at Knebworth Barns in Hertfordshire on the estate of Knebworth House. Tremendous venue, bit of a tupperware day weather-wise but it didn’t rain and they had a fantastic day which is the main thing. A special mention to their cake maker The Alternative Cake Company in Stevenage who provided the superb ‘countryside camping’ cake. The most unique wedding cake I have seen, and I’ve seen quite a lot now.

Wedding season is back!

So it looks like spring is here at last and, dare I say it, summer is just around the corner and the good weather is right on cue for the new wedding season, getting under way for me on Saturday. In great style too…it’s the first wedding I’ve photographed at Grim’s Dyke, a fantastic country house hotel and local to Harrow too.

Pictures to follow in due course but before that it’s time I got this blog up to date with a few highlights from weddings at the end of last year (sorry, they’ve been a long time coming). Here are a few of my favourites from Chris & Sarah’s wedding at Sopwell House in St Albans. Having said that I found it quite difficult to choose and fear I may have left out some worth showing.

Phill & Jacqui – Married

Phill and Jacqui were married back in July at Our Lady & St Thomas of Canterbury church in Harrow On The Hill. Ideal for me as it’s one of the closest churches to where I live and a great setting for a church wedding too. Their reception was at Belmont School in Mill Hill.

Richard & Daphney – Married

I photographed Richard and Daphney’s wedding last week at St Andrew’s in Sudbury and then at Trailfinders in West Ealing. Daphney’s from South Africa, Richard’s a local and a talented musician and runs his own recording studio. Cue a very colourful and musical wedding. As they came into the banquting hall the African women in traditional dress broke out in song and dance. Utterly amazing and a sight I’ll remember for a long time. A lovely couple to work with and here are my favourites from the day…

52 Photo Challenge – Weeks 24 & 25: Metal and Grunge

Metal…well that’s easy, metal’s everywhere. Taking a photo of it and getting it to say ‘metal’ rather than ‘car’, ‘knife’, ‘paperclip’ or whatever, not to mention reflection, was not so easy.

I was at the RAF museum with a few people from my camera club today and thought while I was there I might just be able to take some sort of photo that would say ‘metal’ as I wanted it to be. I had a look at some of the planes and while they were mostly made out of metal, they were generally painted in various liveries that covered up the metal I wanted to take a photo of. However, there were lots of engines about and I found this one. I didn’t want to show the whole thing as I think it would have said engine rather than metal, so here’s a slightly more abstract point of view that says metal to me. I think this could probably have done quite well for ‘mechanical’ earlier this year too…

Next in this double post is ‘grunge’. I suppose there are two ways to capture this…either dirt, muck, filth etc. or photographing someone who’s jumped on the style bandwagon of Kurt and Courtney…that’s Cobain & Love not Geiger & Cox.

Who am I kidding though? I know nothing about fashion so let’s have some good old fashioned grime. Another from the RAF museum, the photo opportunity that just keeps on giving. This was the front end of a plane fished out from the bottom of the sea.

Julian & Rasvinder Married

Julian and Rasvinder were married at Gentleman’s Rown in Enfield and held their reception at Forty Hall. They were really good fun to photograph and to have such great venues was an added bonus. It was the most Indian influenced wedding I’ve shot so far and the colours were amazing, not to mention the food. Here are a few of my favourite’s of them from the day…

I was so tempted to stick up a picture of a rural post box, which I have taken many poor photos of in the last couple of weeks, so I’m pleased I can put something a little less obvious up.

It’s a sign post, but it’s still a post. I’ve done quite a lot of processing to it and I don’t really like what it’s done to the sky but I did want to add noise and texture to it so I suppose it’s done that.

I spent a lot of time thinking about this one and when I told my wife Jax that I was stuck she said “why don’t you photograph me?”

She said it in jest of course but it got me thinking. She was right of course, she usually is, Jax is quality. She’s been through a lot in the last couple of weeks, more than anyone should have to, a double whammy of awful news to two people very close to her. She’s dealt with it all brilliantly and with quality and (I don’t say this often enough) I love her to bits.
